My 21-month-old son (the youngest of five) is adorable. He has squishy cheeks, a broad nose, and a devilish little smile. He is also never ready for photos. Ever.
I have been trying to schedule a time to get a good portrait of the family done since the little guy has been born. I have bought new outfits. I have gotten everyone’s hair trimmed. Then, the little guy goes and does something completely crazy in a determination to ruin everything. What, do you ask, could ruin this opportunity?
- He stole a permanent marker from my desk, hid it in his diaper, and fished it out during the night to color all over his arms, face, and my cheek.
- He ran as fast as he could into our sliding glass door, leaving a purple goose egg on his forehead.
- He placed a giant wad of gum in his hair, requiring me to cut close to the scalp – and leaving a gaping hole in his ‘do.
In short, the guy is the king of sabotage. While I’m certainly used to the precocious toddler, this is a new level of mischief for me, and one that is leaving me without options for keeping him “photo ready.”
Short of banning permanent markers from the home and placing him in a holding cell for the 48 hours prior to a photo shoot, what ideas do you have for getting to our next portrait appointment in one piece?
