This past weekend, Sunday May 27th, the Mega Bloks team helped to raise $60,000 at the Walk Now For Autism Speaks event in Montreal, the kick-off event for all the upcoming walks across North America this summer to raise money for Autism Speaks.
We’re so grateful that so many people came out to walk and support such a great cause –one which we have been working closely with for over a year now. Mother Nature even decided to show us some love and graced us with beautiful weather all day! It was great to see so many happy faces – adults of all ages and most importantly all the kids!
As part of the pre-walk festivities, we erected a giant tent where we gave away toys all morning and set up play tables for the kids to build bloks. There was also free popcorn sponsored by Toys ‘R’ Us, free coffee from Starbucks, and a ton fun inflatable slides and other play areas for the kids.
But wait … there’s more! We raised a little extra money, over $800, with the Sheraz Fun Run.
What’s the Sheraz Fun Run?
Sheraz Asghar, a dedicated Mega Bloks employee in the web dept. is also an extreme athlete who competes in many events, such as the Halliburton 100 Mile Train Run. Sheraz, with the help from other Mega Bloks employees, raised a little extra money by offering to run during the walk, lap over lap, until the last person crossed the finish line.
Sheraz ran 7 laps and just over 10km during the walk – amazing! That’s dedication and support. When asked how he prepared for the run he answered,
I ran 30km this morning.
